Every great television series deserves a spin-off. It’s a mark of excellence. It proves that the show has succeeded and that its maker’s believe in its ability to transcend new and exciting platforms.
In the wake of its unparalleled success and in front of its 11th season, “NCIS” is the next TV program to join the ranks of those with their own spin-off series. Television’s most watched drama is now preparing an off-shoot that will be set in New Orleans, which will debut during a planted pilot in the spring, TVLine reports.
What’s most impressive is that it won’t be the series’ first spin-off. It’s successful sister show, “NCIS: Los Angeles” is now entering its fifth season and has experienced a similar level of success, proving that the “NCIS” empire will withstand the tests of time.
This time around, “NCIS” will be heading to New Orleans. It will be produced by “NCIS” showrunner Gary Glasberg and series star Mark Harmon, an admirable team that promises to deliver more of what “NCIS” fans expect.
The news comes a year after producers decided to begin production on a “NCIS: Los Angeles” spin-off, “NCIS: Red.” The “NCIS” family continues to grow bigger, spawning sisters, brothers and cousins across the board. “NCIS: Red” debuted last spring as a planted pilot but failed to earn its own spot on the 2013-2014 CBS schedule. Hopefully “NCIS: New Orleans” will prove more successful. New Orleans, after all, is a grand city full of music, love, and of course, crime. The perfect setting for a “NCIS” spin-off.
The 11th season of “NCIS” airs tonight, September 24 on CBS.
