This ingenious pen made by Andrew Gardner is made entirely of magnets. It also transforms from a pen to a toy anytime of the day! Check out the 60-second video below:
According to the product website, the magnets used in the pen are made from neodymium, or rare earth. The magnets are then plated in Pure Silver or 24 Karat Gold, depending on the preference of the buyer.
The Polar Pen consists of 12 magnets, two caps, a clip, a tip and a refill or cartridge. All other materials aside from the magnets are made of steel coated with a black zinc finish. The refill or cartridge used in the Polar Pen is a Pilot Hi-Tec-C pen cartridge, otherwise known as the Pilot G-tec-C4. One can also use Uni-ball Signo UM-151 or Uni-Gel Grip refills for the pen.
A Silver Polar Pen will cost you $35 CAD, while a 24K Gold Polar Pen will set you back $42 CAD. Unfortunately, they've all been sold out!
