The playoff matches for the African World Cup qualifiers were revealed on Monday. Here is a brief breakdown of each matchup.

Egypt vs. Ghana

The biggest surprise of the following round is a matchup between Ghana and Egypt. Ghana was the highest scoring team in the entire African continent during qualifiers, while Egypt was the only nation in the first match to win all six games. Egypt is looking to book its first World Cup berth in years, while Ghana is looking to build on its quarterfinals finish in the 2010 edition of the tournament. It is hard to pick a favorite in this matchup, but Ghana has the experience and the recent history points in their favor.

Ivory Coast vs. Senegal

The highest ranking African side is the heavy favorite in this game, but Senegal should not be underestimated as they do have a history in the tournament. Ultimately the star power of Ivory Coast should win the day in this one.

Nigeria vs. Ethiopia

Recent history points to Nigeria easily winning this game and Ethiopia's lack of offensive prowess does not do it any favors. Look for Nigeria to cruise through this one with relative ease.

Algeria vs. Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso has been on the rise for some time. Earlier this year the team participated in the Africa Cup of Nations final where it lost against Nigeria. Algeria has an impressive resume and should put up quite the battle in this matchup. It will be a close one, but Burkina Faso should win.

Cameroon vs. Tunisia

Tunisia originally did not qualify but Cape Verde missed out on the berth due to foul play. However, Cameroon is not the same team it once was and the lack of stability from top star Samuel Eto'o will not do the team any favors. This will be a true battle, but Cameroon will prevail.
