Mexican actress Lucía Méndez shared a controversial photograph on her Twitter account, where she can be seen on the red carpet with actor George Clooney and director Alfonso Cuarón. However, the photo is fake according to entertainment magazine TVNotas.
Méndez shared many pictures from events she attended while Italy on social media, including an image where the actress can be seen wearing a white dress while standing next to George Clooney and Alfonso Cuarón. The photo was accompanied by the message, "I felt happy to meet personalities like George Clooney, Sandra Bullock and many others."
According to the magazine, it was also through social media that it was discovered that a real photograph of Sandra Bullock was photoshopped to replace Bullock with Méndez. The discovery unleashed criticism from her followers.
Four hours after posting the image, the Mexican telenovela star reportedly explained that she didn't manage her Twitter account, and thus didn't know what was happening at that moment.
Méndez published a message that read, "How delicious that Mauro Rossi, President of my fan club caused such commotion managing my Twitter account from Italy. I've been very worried, he doesn't know the Latino press and made a mistake. Understand that I'm not crazy to do something like this, I have no need."
Newspaper Milenio also reported that it only took a few seconds for the fake picture to spread, turning Méndez into a trending topic and prompting social network users to create memes and photoshopped images with the actress' face.
The actress also wrote on her Twitter account, "This award is given to me by the Secretary of the Presidency of the Ministers Chamber and the director of immigration in Italy." This was because her presence in Italy, according to the newspaper, was due to receiving the Best Latina Telenovela Actress award from Line Three Creations Productions company, thanks to many telenovelas broadcast in Italy.
