If you're one of the many that are more interested in the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 than the Galaxy S3 or the iPhone 5, then here's some good news: it's coming soon.
In fact, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 should hit shelves before Apple releases the iPhone 5. Samsung officially stated that they will unveil the device at an August 29 event before the IFA consumer electronics show kicks off in Berlin.
Rumors that drowned earlier in the year about the Galaxy Note 2 having a flexible screen have resurfaced recently. Koreanittimes reports that the Galaxy Note 2 will come with a 5.5-inch, unbreakable flexible AMOLED display. Samsung has been showcasing the technology for a while now, and it looks like the Galaxy Note 2 might be the first device to take advantage of it.
This probably won't mean that you can just roll the Galaxy Note 2 into a small little bundle and stick it in your pocket - but it could point to the fact that Samsung probably wants a thinner screen to fit in a bigger battery.
The device is also rumored to come with a quad-core processor, 4G LTE support, and upgraded cameras.
So who will carry the Samsung Galaxy Note 2? If we take a look at the original Galaxy Note's release, it should give us a good idea. The Galaxy Note was originally an AT&T exclusive, so it's a good bet that AT&T subscribers will see the device.
T-Mobile just recently added the Galaxy Note to its lineup, so while it's likely that it will eventually receive the Galaxy Note 2, it probably won't be for a while so all those who just bought the Galaxy Note won't feel shortchanged.
Verizon apparently has a 5-inch HTC "phablet" (a smartphone that's so big it's somewhere between a phone and a tablet) in the works that could allow it to compete with in the Galaxy Note 2's market. Many Verizon users will clamor for a Galaxy Note 2, however, and seeing as how the Galaxy S3 launched on Verizon as well, Verizon might try and strengthen a Samsung-Verizon relationship by picking up the Galaxy Note 2.
Sprint, on the other hand, passed on the Galaxy Note. Whether or not it will do the same with the Galaxy Note 2 remains to be seen, although I'm sure there are plenty of Sprint owners who would love a Galaxy Note 2.
No pricing or actual release date has been announced at this time.
