There are many reasons to fire somebody. Incompetence, laziness, tardiness, even drinking on the job. But shoes? Looks like Ann Curry might have received the short end of a very grouchy stick one morning from NBC. The ex-"Today" show anchor says that part of the reason she got replaced by Savannah Guthrie might be because of her wardrobe and shoe choice.
"One day I wore a multicolored dress and someone asked if I was trying to be Toucan Sam. But I chose it because I thought, This will perk up America. I'm encouraged by my bosses to wear these ridiculously high-heeled shoes because women say, 'I love your shoes!' So if it makes women happy, I'll wear them. But I'm still going to be me... I've tried to wear clogs and flats on TV and it hasn't gone well with my bosses," said Curry in an interview for the August issue of Ladies' Home Journal that she gave before leaving the "Today" show.
Ann Curry is still employed by NBC as an "anchor at large" and an NBC news national and international correspondent.
In the same interview, Curry also states that her refusal to dye her hair caused some friction between her and the network.
"I've decided not to buy into the idea that I want to stop aging. My wrinkles connect me to my family, to my ancestors and to my future. This is how my father looked when he was my age. I've got cellulite because it runs in my family. I've got gray hair because I won't dye it."
This seems like a pretty positive message to send women around America, but NBC didn't seem to think so. I suppose high heels and L'Oreal style hair is exactly what women need because the rest of the media doesn't showcase them enough. And let's not forget, Ann Curry is not unattractive.
Instead, NBC has replaced Curry with the far more Barbie doll-like Savannah Guthrie, who is impressing viewers thanks to having the Olympics to boost her ratings.
Do you think NBC's decision to fire Ann Curry was the right choice? And do you believe that networks should be trying to insert high heels and perfectly dyed hair into every television personality?
