ABC drama "Revenge" is roaring back with a new and improved storyline, including some plots twists that are sure to shock.
TVLine reported that some of the confusing plot lines will be streamlined, allowing the show to get back to the pure intrigue and scandal that fans loved in the show's first season. In the season premiere, Emily (Emily VanCamp) even says, "Let's never say the words 'Carrion' or 'Initiative' ever again."
The promo for the third season shows Emily in a wedding dress getting ostensibly shot in the stomach, then falling off a boat. The season premiere will backtrack from the shocking fast-forward by rewinding to the previous Memorial Day weekend, which is months after the second season's finale.
The first episode will feature Victoria's (Madeleine Stowe) inappropriate relationship with her estranged son, Patrick (Justin Hartley). Daniel (Joshua Bowman) will also find a new love interest in Margaux (newcomer Karine Vanasse).
A major character will be diagnosed with a life-threatening ailment in the season opener, and Emily will also pay back Nolan (Gabriel Mann) for his huge favor to her. Jack (Nick Wechsler) will also share a scene with Emily in which two big twists are revealed. Emily will then enlist another character's help to get rid of Ashley Davenport (Ashley Madekwe).
It will also be revealed that a major character has switched allegiances.
Emily's takedowns in season three will play out over multiple episodes. The story arcs will also delve deeper into Emily's psyche. Showrunner Sunil Nayar explained season three's plot changes to TVLine. "We're going to use them [revenge plots] to explore who Emily is a little bit more than we've had a chance to in the past," Nayar said.
"We're 44 hours into the show now. She's experienced so many different things, culminating in the revelation of who she [really] is to Jack," Nayar continued. "We're examining not just who she is and what happiness means to her, but what are the ramifications of her plans are. Because now there's someone who knows. And that's going to have an impact on Emily. So the takedowns are still going to be wonderful, but they're also going to have a deeper meaning and a deeper effect."
The season premiere will also feature a moment of Emily and her enemy, Victoria, getting along. "We have a moment where we actually band together," VanCamp revealed to TVLine.
"Of course, like most of the truces forged by the sworn enemies, this one is short-lived. We put up this united front and then, after whatever it is is taken care of, it's like, 'OK, I'm outta here,'" VanCamp said.
The third season of "Revenge" premieres Sunday, September 29 on ABC.
