A League of Legends player took it upon himself to raise some money for charity, and ended up raising $106,000 to help starving children in Africa. Siv HD decided to use his skills in the popular MOBA style game to help out a worthy cause, playing the game for 12 hours as he streamed it live on his Twitch TV channel. The whole livestream has been archived on the channel. Kotaku has the full story on Siv HD's epic plan to raise money for Save the Children.

Siv HD started off donating just $100 of his own money, and left it to users watching the live stream to donate more. His goal was an ambitious $50,000, which he managed to raise after 10 hours of streaming and playing League of Legends. However, once fans hit the goal, donations continued to roll in, causing Siv HD to declare a new goal of $77,000. When gamers managed to hit that goal as well, Siv HD laid down a final goal, declaring he would keep playing and livestreaming the event until gamers hit $100,000, or until he fell asleep. Finally, after 12 hours of playing the PC game, the goal was reached and surpassed, with the final total coming in at $106,000. What's most amazing about the charity drive is that while it took 10 hours to reach the first $50,000 goal, gamers managed to raise twice that amount in two hours.

League of Legends is one of the biggest games involved in the competitive gaming and eSports scene, with huge amounts of money won by professional gamers as they compete in the popular game. Siv Hd's charity drive is not the first time a pro gamer has used fame to raise money for a worthy cause. Professional gamer Athene tried to raise a cool $1 million for Sharecraft 2012. Perhaps some other professional gamers will arrange a celebrity eSports tournament with all the proceeds going to charity. After all, if these gamers are winning six figure checks, such as the $200,000 check the Halo 4 World Champ won this weekend, then surely they can put together something for worthy causes.
