The report, which noted the accessory would be known as the "Power Cover," does not have a suggested release date but will likely come after the second-generation Surface with Windows 8 Pro's launch.
"Seeing as the cover will have a battery in it, we will be curious to see if it is more rigid than the Type Cover," reported Neowin's Brad Sams. "Currently, even the Type Cover is a bit flexible for our taste when using the Surface Pro. While it works well on hard surfaces, using the Type Cover on your lap results in just enough flexing that leaves room for improvement."
According to WinSuperSite's Paul Thurrott, the Power Cover has been confirmed and will be compatible with the existing Surface with Windows 8 Pro tablet as well as its unreleased successors. The Surface with Windows RT will not be compatible with the Power Cover.
Thurrott also commented on the release date of the cover, stating it's scheduled for later this year.
As Latinos Post reported, the successor of the Surface with Windows RT will likely see the "RT" moniker dropped.
According to AdDuplex, while accessing its Windows advertisement network, a new pair of Surface tablets was discovered. The advertising network stated it has "regularly" seen devices named "Microsoft Corporation Surface 2" and "Microsoft Corporation Surface with Windows 8.1" viewing its ads. The "Microsoft Corporation Surface 2" is reportedly the successor of the Surface with Windows RT tablet.
