Defending champions Andy Murray and Serena Williams are the featured attraction Tuesday as they look to punch their ticket into the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open.
Williams avenged her 2013 Australian Open loss, defeating American rival Sloane Stephens 6-4, 6-1, on Saturday, and will take on Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro in the first match of the night-cap at Arthur Ashe Stadium (7 p.m.). Navarro, ranked 18th, eliminated No. 8-ranked Angelique Kerber of Germany on Saturday to earn her match against Williams.
While Williams has yet to lose a set at this year's U.S. Open, the defending champion refuses to get complacent or let her guard down.
"I've been at this for a long time, so for me in my career, there are no letdowns," said Williams.
Andy Murray, who beat Florian Mayer of Germany in three straight sets on Saturday, faces off against Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin, who upset Andreas Seppi of Italy in five sets, in the second night game at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
"Technically he's very sound," said Murray of Istomin's style of play. "He's a good player. He hits the ball very flat. He had a very good match with Novak [Djokovic] in Montreal. He's had some good wins this week, as well."
Also slated for action Tuesday, No. 2-ranked Victoria Azarenka, the defending Australian Open winner, takes one 2008 French Open winner Ana Ivanovic; men's top-ranked Novak Djokovic faces Marcel Granollers of Spain; China's Li Na plays against Ekaterina Makarova; Tomas Berdych is matched up against Stanislas Wawrinka; and Lleyton Hewitt - the 2011 U.S. Open champion - will go up against Miikhail Youzhny at Louis Armstrong Stadium.
