Even though Mindy was engaged on the season one finale of "The Mindy Project," there will still be a bunch of new men in Mindy's life in season two.
Mindy Kaling, the star of the Fox comedy, spoke to Entertainment Weekly at the Television Critics Association to share who would be joining the cast of the second season.
James Franco will be a new addition to the cast, playing a new doctor who starts working at Mindy's practice when she's in Haiti with Pastor Casey (Anders Holm). "I come back to my nemesis, played by James Franco," Kaling teased.
Writer Ike Barinholtz, who also plays nurse Morgan on the show, said, "James Franco is the anti-Mindy. He's everything you're not. He's a man. He's white ..."
"This will take too long to go through all our differences," Kaling added.
Adam Pally, who played Max on the recently canceled "Happy Endings" will join the show as a stereotypical "bro" character. "I went to Dartmouth College, and until now, I've not been able to satirize my favorite kind of Dartmouth character, which is a kind of well-educated frat guy, who's both congenial and ultra into his frat," Kaling said. "And Pally ... has a very fun bro energy that also exudes warmth in a way that's kind of rare."
"He's able to play low-status while playing high-status," Barinholtz added. "He can do something really demeaning and be proud about it. He can be like, 'What a great day. I'm going to go home and knock out a French-bread pizza.' It's hard to do."
Some guests are also coming back for the second season. Mindy's dentist ex, played by Bill Hader, will be back, as well as Danny's (Chris Messina) sometimes-wife (Chloe Sevigny), and Pastor Casey, who might only be on the new season for a couple of episodes early on.
"Mindy gets to be single again," Kaling revealed.
Holm, star of Comedy Central show "Workaholics" looked on the bright side. "I don't die, though!" Holm joked.
Although it appeared like Mindy found true love with the Pastor, (and that a wedding is even in store), something obviously cuts their romance short. Fans will have to watch season two to find out what happens next in Mindy's love life.
"The Mindy Project's" second season debuts on Fox at 9:30 p.m. on September 17.
