Could Daniel Agger be headed to Barcelona?

The Liverpool defender has been constantly linked to the Spanish club and recently commented on the rumors.

"In general, you have to think of it as a positive thing," he said, according to ESPN. "Regardless of what is being said or written, it's a positive thing when someone thinks you do your job well. When a club like Barcelona thinks that, it's even better, and it's made me happy. I won't deny that, but [the deal] is a long way from being a reality unless something happens."

Agger did note that the situation was beyond his control and that he was going to honor is current contract with Liverpool unless the club said otherwise.

"This is the situation," he said. "It's not something I can dictate or determine. I'm under contract with Liverpool for three years so, if the club want to keep me, they'll keep me."

He added: "Liverpool gave me my life contract ... I would not want the relationship I have with Liverpool to end even if, for example, I were to leave when my contract expires"

Barcelona has been in dire need of a defender and has gone after such players as David Luiz and Thiago Silva but was rejected by both players' respective clubs. After such failures, the Spaniards seemed to walk away from the chance of adding a new defender but recent matches have proven that a new addition to defend the goal might be necessary.

The transfer window closes on Sept. 2.
