Linda Pérez, a young Hispanic woman residing in Miami, remains in critical condition, after suffering complications during a breast augmentation surgery that put her in a coma more than two weeks ago.
The 18-year-old teenager had a breast augmentation surgery on August 12 in the Coral Gables Cosmetic Center, in Miami, according to The Huffington Post. During surgery, Pérez presented complications and had to be urgently transported to Mercy Hospital.
According to El Nuevo Herald, a report on the surgery's procedure stated that Pérez suffered from severe cardiac and brain damages during the surgery. According to the report, the surgery was going fine, until Pérez's doctor Jacob Freiman was stitching the wounds and realized that her heart rate was very low. He then proceeded to apply chest compressions and administered atropine.
The report stated, "The patient seemed to stabilize, but because the heart rate slowly dropped from 160 to 30, the patient was administered another (dose) of atropin."
"Although initially the patient required assistance and ventilation, after 30 minutes, she was breather on her own through her LMA (a mask connected to a tube that transports oxygen and anesthesia to the lungs)."
It was not the young woman's first cosmetic surgery. According to La Opinión, Pérez had previously had her buttocks augmented. Meanwhile another Latina died after undergoing a similar surgery in a private Miami clinic, the newspaper reported.
