Once again, social media users have been shocked after a man in Costa Rica murdered his wife and then sent a picture of the body to his contacts through the WhatsApp instant messaging application.
According to El Mundo, the unfortunate events took place on August 24 in Huacas, when the alleged murderer, a 29-year-old man identified only by his last name, Macotelo, murdered his 27-year-old girlfriend, Angie Melisa Obando Zúñiga.
The newspaper reported that the couple had been living together for a year and a half when the crime took place. After murdering his girlfriend, Macotelo took a picture with his cellphone and sent it to his victim's sister via WhatsApp. El Mundo also reported that the image showed the body of the victim on the bed of their home and a message that professed the murderer's regret.
The motive for the crime is still unknown, however, Joel Contreras Barrantes, officer of the local Public Force and the Judicial Investigation Organism (OIJ), stated that after sending the picture with a notice to pick up the body, the alleged murderer surrendered without putting up any resistance, according to details unveiled by La Nación.
The macabre incident is reminiscent of the events that recently took place in a Miami county, when a man murdered his girlfriend and then uploaded a picture to Facebook along with his confession.
