The Serena Williams vs. Maria Sharapova gold medal match had people turning their heads to track the ball movement on Saturday morning, but Williams gave them another good reason to draw their attention after she beat Sharapova in two sets.
After the American crushed Sharapova 6-0, 6-1, her uncontainable joy was apparently expressed through a momentary but excitement-revealing-celebration in the form of a crip walk dance.
Although it is unclear why she chose to move her feet and body to the infamous 70s dance move, one answer may perhaps be it was the first thing that came out from her since celebrating is normally spontaneous - unless the dance was premeditated of course.
The fact however remains: Serena Williams cruised over the Russian tennis player to earn her first gold medal and first career golden slam (having won the four grand slams and the gold medal in her career) in the Women's singles event.
Williams has been dominating the game on British soil as she not only took the title at Wimbledon a few weeks prior to the Olympics but also earned the gold medal for the Women's doubles together with her big sister Venus Williams.
Her next tournament, the U.S. Open - slated to begin on August 27 continue until September 9.
