Vin Diesel recently revealed that he was nearly set to star in a Marvel Phase 3 film.
According to IGN, the action star is set to play Groot in "Guardians of the Galaxy," but the actor initially met with Marvel Studios to work on an entirely different project.
"I kind of take my hat off to them for being so creative and thinking outside the box," Diesel said in an interview with THR . "We were initially talking about a fresh IP, that was the focus of our conversation, was a fresh IP that would come out in 2016 and 2017 and would potentially launch a third phase."
However, his ever-busy schedule got in the way of such a possibility ever happening.
"With my schedule, it was almost impossible to imagine I could do anything immediate," said Diesel. "I guess after they watched The Iron Giant or whatever, they came up with this idea of taking the strangest Marvel character, or the strangest Marvel character that's ever hit film, and thought what I could do with that with motion capture and with my voice."
Diesel previously talked about being involved with Marvel during an interview with the LA Times in which he all but confirmed his involvement as Groot.
"I'm an actor. I can do whatever the [expletive] I want," Diesel told the LA Times regarding the role of the extraterrestrial monster. "As an actor, not everything has to be the most obvious choice. And sometimes, the best thing you can do - as far as Steven Spielberg and his advice - is to defy expectations. So if everybody thinks you're going to go for this one thing and you flip it entirely and go for the strangest Marvel character, it's interesting. And when something is interesting, it's inspiring."
