The trailer to "Divergent" has been released.

Summit Entertainment released the film's trailer at the MTV VMA awards. The premiere came after the network released a 15 second clip in anticipation for the full-length trailer.

"Divergent" is one of the most anticipated films of the year and another young adult fantasy series that will try to establish itself as a tentpole series. This past weekend "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" failed to conquer the box office making a sequel less likely. Summit hopes to have the same success that "The Hunger Games" had in 2012 in order to make the sequel "Insurgent."

"Divergent" takes place in a future world where people are divided into factions based on personality. When teenager Tris is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group, she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents.

The movie stars Shailene Woodley, who recently stated that in preparation for the film she read the book. "I definitely read the book. I read the book before there was a script that I read. Luckily for me, it was written from Tris' point of view. Veronica did a lot of the work for me. Before scenes, I would go back to the book and see what Veronica put in there, in Tris' mind, to understand the mind-set of each scene. That really helped me a lot, to get into the emotional stature of where Tris was," Woodley explained."

Summit Entertainment will release the film, which also stars Theo James, Kate Winslet, Zoe Kravitz, Ashley Judd and Ray Stevenson. Neil Burger directed the film adaptation from the novel by Veronica Roth. The movie will be released on March 21, 2014.
