In early August, news leaked that Mexican singer Juan Gabriel, known as the Divo of Juárez, was a faithful practitioner of urinotherapy, a practice that consists of the ingestion of one's own urine with the purpose of obtaining positive health benefits.
At the time, Gabriel's godson Davael told Mexican radio show Amor that the artist had recommended the uncommon regimen to treat health problems. He said, "I owe him my life, in 2007 when I met him I had serious health issues, and he recommended urinotherapy, something he has studied a good deal and is a faithful practitioner of it."
However, according to People en Español, singer Mariana Seoane, a friend of the singer, told Cadena 3 channel that she had never seen Juan Gabriel carrying out such practice, and seemed to be annoyed by the question. Furthermore, she was asked if she would perform that practice, but the actress denied it. She said, "I can't tell you I wouldn't do it, but right now I'm not interested, honestly, and I don't feel like it."
Despite confessing that she had heard of urinotherapy and its positive effects on the body and its health, she said that she prefers to take care of her body through more traditional practices such as excercise and a variety of diets. "I heard once that it was healthy and that it helped. I imagine it must be very healthy, but honestly I wouldn't be able to do it. I'd rather be healthy, excercise, drink a lot of water and be happy inwards... anything else doesn't matter," Soeane said.
Urinotherapy is considered an alternative medicine practice, which consists in ingesting or applying human urine on the skin. Urine is deemed to have antibacterial properties and helps prevent and counteract alergies, however, it is something that has not been fully studied by professionals.
