The fourth season of the 21st-century revival of '70s series "Hawaii Five-0" will air this fall with a new addition to the cast. The tropical cop drama has cast Melanie Griffith as Danny "Danno" Williams' (Scott Caan) mother.
According to WENN, Griffith, 56, was personally approached by Caan to consider playing his character's mother. Griffith was delighted by the idea, and said that she hopes the role will turn into a recurring part. "I did a play with him (Caan) last summer and he's so cool. I adore him," Griffith said.
Griffith, who was nominated for an Academy Award and won a Golden Globe for her performance in the 1988 film "Working Girl," has recently had trouble finding work. Griffith sites ageism as the main factor that prevents older actresses from finding roles.
"I don't get offered a lot of movies," Griffith said. "I just thought what would never happen when I was in my twenties and thirties hearing actresses b**ch about how they didn't get any work when they were 50, and now I understand it. Hollywood in a lot of ways is a very superficial place. For women it's all about youth and beauty."
Griffith also has a cynical view of the movies currently on the scene today.
"I don't even go to the movies these days because there's nothing to see," Griffith added. "The big movies are all cartoons or superheroes. My husband has written a script for me but he's very busy. He's got a lot to do; he is Puss n' Boots, you know!"
Griffith has been married to Spanish actor Antonio Banderas since 1996.
In addition to Griffith, E! Online reports that "Hawaii Five-0" has added other stars to its list of cameos for next season: Nick Jonas, Chi McBride, Carol Burnett, Tim Daly, Jorge Garcia, Terry O'Quinn, Rebecca De Mornay, Taryn Manning, Rumer Willis and Henry Ian Cusick.
The upcoming season of "Hawaii Five-0" will also see the return of a familiar face in addition to the new ones. According to TVLine, Executive Producer Alex Kurtzman shared at the Television Critic's Association Awards that Kono, (Grace Park) who left the show last season, is not gone for good.
However, Kurtzman was tightlipped about how Kono would return. "I can't reveal that yet, but she is not gone," Kurtzman said. As for when she will return, Kurtzman said, "We're actually in the middle of that conversation now."
The successful resurrection of the show aired in 2010. The original series aired in 1968 and ran through 1980.
The fourth season of "Hawaii Five-0" will air on CBS on Friday, September 27.
