After a shaky second season, ABC’s “Revenge” is gearing up for a drama-filled third season this fall. Fans were shocked last season as Emily (Emily VanCamp) revealed her secrets to Jack (Nick Wechsler) and Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) met with her long-lost son Patrick (guest star Justin Hartley).
Details of the upcoming season have slowly poured in, with VanCamp revealing some details about the mysterious Patrick. Victoria and her son “spent a lot of time together building a relationship, one that seems inappropriate when we first see them,” the actress tells TVLine. “She’s just so in love with her son. It’s very bizarre.”
The new relationship will prove to be an obstacle for Emily. “The ultimate goal for Emily with Victoria is to turn her children against her. She’s successfully managing it with Daniel. You’ll start to see that she’s not so successfully managing it with Charlotte. And Patrick is the wild card. He’s going to be a very tricky person to turn, if she even can,” VanCamp said.
New showrunner Sunil Nayar also shared some details about the upcoming season to TVLine. Some fans have wonder what sort of role Barry Sloane (Aiden) would play in the upcoming season. TVLine’s Michael Ausiello said the actor was not only promoted to series regular but that his character “is moving front and center.”
“Last year he was very much a ninja on the periphery,” Nayar said. “And now we get to inject him into the world of the show. It’s reconception of the character and a real growth. The stories we told last year barely scratched the surface of what Barry is capable of doing as an actor and what the character is capable of doing on screen. He has such a rich history with Emily.”
The actor behind Aiden revealed some details about where he’ll find himself this season after losing Emily to Daniel. Sloane told TV Guide that his character will be seeking out other allies in the upcoming third season.
“That’s what’s interesting about Aiden this year; he’s sleeping with the enemy a little bit” Sloan teased, before adding, “I’ve been working a lot with Madeleine [Stowe].” Could Aiden be joining forces with Victoria to undermine Emily’s work? Or could he be trying to win her back by foiling any plans Victoria has?
Nayar, however, hinted that Emily may not be marrying Daniel as is expected. “You’re going to see something spectacular happen,” Nayar told TVLine, “and we’re going to [build toward] that in the first half of the season.”
“Revenge” season 3 premieres on Sunday, September 29 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
