Florentino Perez remains convinced that Cristiano Ronaldo will sign an extension with Real Madrid and end his career with the club.
The President of Los Blancos stated that the contract extension will be pursued as the summer comes to an end.
"We are all convinced that he is going to finish his sporting life at Real Madrid," he said according to ESPN. "At the end of the summer we will try and sort out this subject. I believe this will happen, for sure, before the end of the month, or at the start of next month. We do not have such a great hurry, when there are good intentions. We will resolve it satisfactorily. At least that is my desire."
The statement comes a day after Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti asserted that a new contract was coming.
"The player wants to renew his contract and the club want him to renew it too, so I don't think it's going to be a problem,'' Ancelotti said according to Madrid-based newspaper AS. "I think Cristiano and the club are relaxed about the issue. I don't know when it will happen, but I am certain that Cristiano is going to renew his contract with Madrid."
Rumors indicate that Ronaldo could be in for a huge payday with a contract that would pay him 17 million euros a year.
"The person who wants to retire at Real Madrid is Ronaldo, and Real want him to retire here too," Perez said in an interview with Univision a few weeks ago. "There haven't been any negotiations [on a new deal] because he is on holiday. Be in no doubt, Cristiano will retire here because he wants to. Just as [Zinedine] Zidane and other great players have done."
If Ronaldo signs the extension, he would essentially destroy hopes of a return to Manchester United where he started his career.
