"Two and a Half Men" will be returning for an 11th season without a crucial element: its "half" man. Instead, there will now be two men and an estranged, illegitimate daughter.
Amber Tamblyn will be joining the cast of CBS' "Two and a Half Men" for season 11 as Charlie Harper's (Charlie Sheen) long-lost, lesbian daughter, Jenny. According to the Daily Mail, Jenny is Charlie's illegitimate daughter who moved to Los Angeles to try to break into the world of acting.
Jenny's father, Charlie, a jingle producer and notorious lothario, was killed off the series by being pushed in front of a subway train.
Tamblyn will be replacing Angus T. Jones, who exited the sitcom after playing character Jake Harper for 10 years. According to Rolling Stone, Jones referred to the show as "filth" in an interview prior to his departure from the show last year. He later apologized for his comment and completed the season, in which his role was phased out by limiting his character to recurring appearances.
CBS commented that the new character, Jenny, "likes everything her dad liked--including women."
The show's creator, Chuck Lorre, is ecstatic about Tamblyn joining the cast. Lorre had an infamous falling out with Sheen before he decided to kill off Sheen's character. "I think it would be great to have that voice on the show from a different perspective," Lorre said in reference to Tamblyn's character at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. "The show has had enough testosterone to last a lifetime."
"Part of the fun in this has been creating a character that is equal to the task of stepping on the stage with Jon Cryer and Ashton Kutcher. That's a big job," Lorre added. "The idea of the character brings a healthy amount of decadence, which is always fun on 'Two and a Half Men'."
Tamblyn hails from Santa Monica, California, and is best known for her role on the ABC soap "General Hospital" as well as "Joan of Arcadia," "Boston Public" and "CSI: Miami." She is also known for starring in the feature film "The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants" alongside Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera and Blake Lively.
Tamblyn was married last year to "Arrested Development" star David Cross in a rural ceremony in upstate New York. She was given away by her father, Russ Tamblyn, an actor who starred on the series "Twin Peaks." A number of celebrity friends attended the ceremony, including Amy Poehler and America Ferrera.
Tamblyn is scheduled to appear in five episodes, but has the option to sign on as a permanent part cast member.
"Two and a Half Men" returns to CBS on Sept. 26.
