Coloratura Soprano Aleksandra Kurzak is pregnant.
The Polish soprano announced the news on Facebook. "Today is my birthday, and the most happy one, so let's make it official...We are expecting BABY!!!" she posted in a comment on the site.
She then shared a number of pictures of Roberto Alagna and her. The news comes as a surprise as there was wide speculation that the tenor and the soprano were dating, but there was never a confirmation. The couple met in London during a run of Donizetti's "L'Elisir d'Amore" and was later spotted several times together.
The baby is due in February and will most likely affect Kurzak's schedule. The soprano is slated to appear in Verdi's "Rigoletto" at the San Francisco Opera and Metropolitan Opera. She is also slated to appear in "L"Elisir d'Amore" during the months leading up to the anticipated birth date. She was also slated to appear in Zurich for a new production of "Rigoletto" but will most likely have to cancel it. A revival of Verdi's "La Traviata" in her native Poland will most likely be cancelled as well. Kurzak's managers have sent a statement out but news on her schedule should soon be revealed.
Alagna was recently divorced from Romanian soprano Angela Gheorghiu with whom he held a relationship since 1996. They then separated in 2009 but rekindled their relationship in 2011. In 2013, Gheorghiu announced that they were divorced.
Alagna and Kurzak have yet to announce whether they will tie the knot, but with a baby on the way, they may wed soon.
