Fans of the BBC detective drama "Sherlock" got a sneak peak into the upcoming season earlier this month. A new teaser trailer for season (or series if you're British) three was released on Friday featuring all of Sherlock's (Benedict Cumberbatch) friends as well as the genius detective himself.
While fans have known all along that Sherlock survived the fateful jump during the season two finale, they had not seen him until now. The short clip features Sherlock walking purposefully towards his good friend Watson (Martin Freeman), who has no idea that he's alive.
The video, which you can catch below, also features a newly stashed Watson. Maybe he's rocking a new look for his fiancé? Executive producers/co-creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, as well as EP Sue Vertue, confirmed that Watson would be getting married this season during their panel at the San Diego Comic-Con. According to EW, a clip of the wedding "had the audience in stitches."
As expected, Watson's best friend Sherlock will be taking up the role of best man.
As previously reported, Sherlock's new nemesis was revealed late in July as Charles Augustus Magnussen, who will be played by Danish actor Lars Mikkelsen. Mikkelsen's character is based on Arthur Conan Doyle's Charles Augustus Milverton, "a blackmailer who extorts money from wealthy nobles," the BBC reported. It'll be interesting to see how the show portrays the new villain.
The popular detective series, which has already been renewed for a fourth season, will return for season three with three episodes: "The Empty Hearse," "The Sign of Three" and "His Last Vow." The "Sherlock" panel at Comic-Con promised fans that the season two cliffhanger would be resolved in the upcoming season and based on the video below, they've kept their promise.
"Sherlock" season three returns to Masterpiece on PBS in 2014.
