Ryan Gosling may be the new Batman in Zack Snyder's "Batman vs. Superman."
Sources have said that the Canadian actor is among Warner Bro.'s top choices for the film. The studio is currently looking for an actor in his late 30s or 40s who can portray an established rugged figure. While Gosling is not in his late 30s, sources say that his latest work for Warner Bros. has made him a very attractive pick for the role of Bruce Wayne.
Gosling has yet to do a tentpole film, as he has mainly concentrated on independent films that have also incorporated stunt work. This year audiences saw him in two action-heavy films. In March he portrayed Luke in "The Place Beyond the Pines," where he was seen riding a motorcycle and robbing banks. This past July audiences saw him in "Only God Forgives," which also featured a lot of action and stunt work from Gosling.
He has also worked in numerous studio films including Warner Bros.' January release "Gangster Squad" and the studio's "Crazy, Stupid, Love." He also appeared in New Line Cinemas's "Fracture" and "The Notebook."
Gosling could also be a favorable replacement for Christian Bale (Batman in "The Dark Knight") as he has become one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation. The actor has been praised for performancrs in "Half Nelson," "Blue Valentine," "Lars and the Real Girl," and "Drive."
Whether he is chosen for the role may still take some time as the film is said to still be in the writing process.
"Batman vs. Superman" is set to star Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane. Warner Bros. will release the movie in 2015.
