Samuel L. Jackson has signed on to play the villain in the upcoming "Secret Service" film.
The original report came from Variety, which noted that Jackson was the latest in a long list of actors that were pursued for the role.
"Vaughn had always intended to have a big star as his main antagonist, having already pursued Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio," wrote Variety.
"Secret Service" is based on the comic book by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons. Millar is famous for creating "Kick-Ass," while Gibbons was a major collaborator on the vaunted "Watchmen" graphic novel. According to Moviefone: "in Millar's 'Secret Service' comic book, a young street tough is taken in by his secret agent uncle and shown a shadowy world few are allowed to see. Together, they uncover a dark conspiracy involving kidnapped science-fiction stars and all sorts of James Bond-ian derring-do, but complete with Millar's singular wit and deconstructionist worldview."
Mark Hamill is rumored to make an appearance in the film, and other rumored celebrities include David Beckham.
"[Beckham] was asked by Colin Firth if he'd like to be in the movie but he is yet to fully commit," wrote The Sun. "He loves movies and fancies appearing on the big screen - but just as a one-off, not a full-time career."
"Secret Service" will be directed by Matthew Vaughn. The filmmaker was originally slated to work on "X-Men: Days of Future Past," but passed it over to Bryan Singer. He bought the rights to "Secret Service" and plans to produce it independently. The film is scheduled for a Nov.14, 2014 release date.
