According to FanaticFone, the rear-shell for the tablet is "identical" to the current iPad mini.
The site added: "Another thing to notice is that both the iPad 5 and the iPad Mini 2 Apple logo is no longer only printed on the cover but the logo is now its own mold implemented into the rear housing."
Although the rear shell could be a prototype and not the final version, the word "iPad" is not present for both iPad covers.
In regards to the iPad 5 rear shell, the dimensions are 24x16.8 centimeters and the piece weighs 100 grams, which is lighter and shorter than the current iPad iterations. The distance between the screen and the border is also reportedly shorter, measuring only 3 millimeters. The iPad 5's speakers are placed at the bottom of the rear-shell, similar to the iPad mini.
As Latinos Post reported, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo projected the iPad mini 2 will get a March or April 2014 release date. Kuo added that the delay of the second-generation 7.9-inch iPad mini is due to the addition of the Retina Display. The size of the battery may be another concern if Retina Display is included due to the small body of the tablet.
Meanwhile, DigiTimes, citing "industry sources," stated LG Display is producing panels for the iPad mini 2. LG Display is allegedly "making new headway" in Retina Display production for the 7.9-inch tablet. The sources familiar with LG Display stated that 2 to 3 million units panels will be shipped ahead of its October release date.
