Ousted Today co-host Ann Curry is reported to be in a happier mode as the morning show's ratings continue to slip despite the coverage of the London 2012 Summer Olympics.
Back on June 28, Curry announced she will step down from the co-anchors desk and was replaced with Savannah Guthrie. The move was organized by NBC as Today experienced less-than-stellar ratings and saw rival ABC's morning show Good Morning America gaining ground in the ratings chase.
A source told tabloid the National Enquirer, "Ann feels completely vindicated by the Today show's poor ratings since she left. She feels she was fired completely unfairly and wasn't given a fair shot at the gig."
According to the source, Ann feels she was made a scapegoat by the NBC, and that the program needed an overhaul, not just replacing her.
"She feels they should have booked better guests and had a more exciting line-up and better stories to cover and better writing. Ann believes that point has been proved by the show's ratings declining even further since she left," said the source.
NBC President Steve Capus feels differently, telling the Hollywood Reporter, "We gave her a year to prove herself, and ultimately we came to the conclusion that she had played at the highest level she could. When you're in the major leagues of our profession, you've got to continue to be at peak performance in order to stay there."
"She has no hard feelings towards Savannah," said the National Enquirer's source. "There's definitely no love lost for Matt Lauer though, who she feels threw her under the bus completely."
Since Guthrie joined Lauer at the anchors desk, the show's ratings still has not beaten Good Morning America.
As Latinos Post reported earlier, Today's ratings has not seen a boost from the Olympics coverage and have called on fourth-hour host Hoda Kotb to postpone her scheduled vacation plans to assist in Today's London coverage.
According to preliminary Nielsen figures, Good Morning America has averaged 4.57 million viewers, compared with 4.21 million for Today.
