NBC's firefighter series "Chicago Fire" will return this fall for a second season of action-packed drama. The finale of season one left viewers wondering if Peter (Charlie Barnett) would be leaving for a potential spinoff series. Yet, The Examiner reported that Barnett may not be leaving for the NBC spinoff after all.
"Even though Peter Mills picked up an application for the police department in the season finale, that does not mean Charlie Barnett is heading to "Chicago PD," reported TV Guide. "A source says that while it's obviously a possibility, nothing has been set in stone yet."
In the season one finale, Peter asked Dawson (Monica Raymund) to insist that she didn't have any feelings for Casey (Jesse Spencer). However, Dawson couldn't deny her feelings for Casey to Peter. "I can't tell you what you need to hear," Dawson told Peter. "It wouldn't be the truth."
Following that heartbreak, Peter received more regrettable bad news: he failed to earn a spot on the rescue squad. In an act of defeat, he went to the Police Department training center to pick up an application for the Chicago PD, which made it seem like he could be joining the cast of the "Chicago PD" spinoff next season, although that is still only fan speculation.
Although Peter's future is unclear, it is certain that Casey (Jesse Spencer) will be returning to the series, although he will be taking some time off from fighting fires.
"He goes away on a sabbatical; he takes a little time out," Spencer told TV Guide. "But he's going to come back with a new lease on life. He becomes a family man. He's able to give something back to some kids. It's going to be an emotionally healing experience. The kids are going to help him, and it'll be a complicated, but nice, recovery."
It is also confirmed that Larisa Polonsky will return as Otis' Russian cousin, Zoya. The exotic blonde will be seen in the upcoming season pouring drinks at her cousin's bar, and will spark up a romance with Cruz.
Chicago Fire returns to NBC on Sept. 24 at 10 p.m.
