Katy Perry, known for her confectionary costumes and bubblegum-colored hair, lived up to her histrionic reputation with the announcement of her new album, "Prism," on a gigantic, gold-plated semi-truck on July 29.

The oversized ad was seen rolling around Los Angeles with the words "Katy Perry" and the album title and release date emblazoned in black letters along the side. The truck announced to eager fans that the new album will drop on October 22, 2013.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Perry mentioned the mammoth advertisement via Twitter, calling it the "PRISM semi," and promised that the golden truck would be driving to other cities. Perry, who is no publicity novice, encouraged fans to take pictures of the truck and share them via their Twitter accounts. However, Perry was tightlipped about any other album details.

EW reports that American Idol phenomenon Adam Lambert was one of the first to notice the truck. Lambert tweeted, "Yes @katyperry this is crazy!! Love it!"

"Prism" will be Perry's third album, following 2010's wildly successful "Teenage Dream," which was accompanied by a world tour that was chronicled by the popular rockumentary "Katy Perry: Part of Me."

"Teenage Dream" is famously tied with Michael Jackson's seminal "Bad" album for achieving the most number one singles from the same LP. "Teenage Dream" spawned mega-hits such as "Teenage Dream," "California Gurls," "Firework," "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" and "E.T.," which all hit number one on the pop charts. Although the commercial success of her second album was dampened by her very public split from ex-beau comedian Russell Brand, her propulsion to mega-star status did not stop.

In addition to her upcoming third album, she recently stepped back into her Smurf shoes as the voice of Smurfette in "Smurfs 2." According to EW, she also has a new fragrance called "Killer Queen" that will debut in the fall.
