It looks like "The Good Wife" fans are in for a season with a bit more Elsbeth Tascioni when the show returns in a couple of weeks. TVLine is reporting that Emmy nominated Carrie Preston is near to sign a deal to return to the CBS lawyer drama in the upcoming fifth season.
According to sources, Preston would return to reprise her role in multiple episodes. The actress, who was nominated for her "Good Wife" role, has appeared in nine episodes from 2010-2013. Preston previously spoke to TVLine to reflect on her role as the whip-smart lawyer.
"I feel really lucky I was trusted with this part, and to bring this very specific creature to life," the actress said. "It is a delight to get inside the mechanics of Elsbeth's brain and body - and to see how she ticks - whenever they give me the opportunity."
Preston added, "Elsbeth surprises people; I let her surprise me as well. And the other actors on the show are extraordinary and give me wonderful things to play off of, too. It starts with the writing, though, and I go from there."
The actress will join an impressive list of guest roles, including Jeffrey Tambor (a judge in the season premiere), Ben Rappaport (Carey), Melissa George (Marilyn) and Juliet Rylance (Holly).
In other "Good Wife" news, CBS chief Les Moonves did not appear too confident that show would be able to beat shows like HBO's "Game of Thrones" during the Emmys this year.
"It's hard to put 'The Good Wife' up against 'Game of Thrones.' 'Game of Thrones' probably cost three time as much and takes three times as long to shoot," Moonves said during his Q&A at the Television Critics Association's press tour in Beverly Hills on Monday, Entertainment Weekly reported.
Moonves was commenting on NBC entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt's comment calling broadcast the "bastard child" of the TV industry.
"The Good Wife" season five premieres on Sunday, September 29 at 9 p.m. on CBS.
