Motorola's upcoming Moto X smartphone has created a lot of buzz through a ridiculous number of leaks before the official Aug. 1 reveal, and the latest bit from the rumor mill states it could be releasing in early August.

According to Taylor Wimberly, founder of Android and Me and the source of most of the information we know so far about the Moto X, the phone will be shipping out to carriers Monday, July 29, meaning a release might not be far off.

"Just got some crazy info. Unverified source tells me Moto X ships to US carriers on 7/29 (tomorrow)! If this is true then it might go on sale this week after the big reveal. Trying to verify info with some other sources," Wimberly wrote on Google Plus.

Just as Wimberly warns, it's important to note that the source of the information is unverified, so be sure to digest the dates with some salt.

If Wimberly turns out to be right (remember, he's been pretty spot on about the Moto X so far), it would come as a surprise to most who thought the Moto X would launch late August. Leaked internal memos suggested Verizon would begin selling the phone Aug. 23 and U.S. Cellular would follow on Aug. 26. No dates for the other major U.S. carriers exist, but FCC filings show that we should expect the handset to release on AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint as well.

The Moto X is rumored to sport a 4.5-inch 720p display and a 10-megapixel rear-facing camera. The phone will feature always-on voice commands, and will do away with LED notifications, instead opting to display the relevant information on the screen itself. The Moto X will be assembled in the United States, and buyers will be able to customize the look and feel of the phone to a certain degree.
