The finale season of "How I Met Your Mother" is shaping up to be the best yet. After eight successful seasons on the air, the show has racked up an impressive number of guest characters, inside jokes and concurrent subplots. Season 9 will bring all of these back. It will tie up all loose ends. It will reintroduce the show's funniest moments and the best guest roles. It will be the end of an era. It will be triumphant and hilarious, despite the heavy hearts fans will feel when saying goodbye. As the September premiere date approaches, fans look ahead to the farewell season in attempt to get a better idea of how the epic comedy sitcom will come to a close.

For starters, fans learned during Comic-Con that the premiere episode will feature a "Game of Thrones" crossover. "We haven't locked the cut yet, but there is a 'Game of Thrones' reference in the season premiere that I hope stays in," said executive producer Craig Thomas. "We reveal that in the same way that Barney is a big fan of Billy Zabka in 'The Karate Kid,' Barney may or may not be a big fan of King Joffrey."

Not only that, but more actors continue to join the already jam packed cast for the ninth season. According to TV Guide, Roger Bart will guest star as an employee at the hotel in Farhampton where Barney and Robin will host their wedding weekend. It's unclear how many episodes he will appear in, but as the entire season takes place during the wedding weekend, he's likely to be present throughout.

Bart is best known for his roles as journalist Mason Treadwell on "Revenge" and psycho killer pharmacist George Williams on "Desperate Housewives," a wide array of roles for a versatile actor.

"How I Met Your Mother" will return to CBS September 23.
