Samuel L. Jackson wants a sequel to "The Incredibles." The actor revealed his desire for a follow-up to the 2004 hit during Comic-Con.
"I keep asking the guys at Pixar why we didn't make 'The Incredibles 2.' And nobody can tell me," Jackson said. "Personally I think they raised the bar so high that they are worried about making one that's not as good as the first one. But that happens too - you don't live up to the expectations of the first one."
"The biggest challenges for franchises is keeping them fresh and exciting" he explained about the secret to a successful franchise. "Most times you need a good bad guy to make that thing continually work. Sometimes they don't. I've been fortunate that I've been in some really good franchise films. 'Star Wars,' and now the Marvel series. But you have to have fresh characters coming into the familiar that make audiences want to see them and relate to them."
Considering "The Incredibles" is the fourth highest grossing Pixar film to date, it's surprising the company hasn't tried to cash in on a follow-up. The company's highest grossing film of all time is "Toy Story 3," a second sequel, and the second highest grossing Pixar movie, "Finding Nemo" is slated to get a sequel.
Pixar has also made sequels out of its "Cars" and "Monsters Inc." franchises. Both franchises showcase what could go right and wrong with expanding a franchise. The first "Cars" grossed $244 million, but the second one flopped by its predecessor's standards and only took in $191 million, second worst on Pixar's list to the 1998 hit "A Bug's Life."
Meanwhile, the "Monsters" films have both done well at the box office. The first film raked in $255 million and the second one is slated to pass it in coming weeks.
