Tom Hanks and Ron Howard will reunite for the adaptation of Dan Brown's "Inferno."

Deadline is reporting that Hanks and Howard have already signed on to work on the film and that it will be released in 2015. The movie will be based on Brown's fourth book in the Robert Langdon franchise that was released in May. It tells the story of Langdon, the Harvard University professor of religious iconology and symbology, who travels to Italy and finds himself stuck in a mystery surrounding one of the greatest stories ever told: Dante's Inferno.

The news comes as a surprise as Howard rejected the offer to direct the third book "The Lost Symbol." The helmer said he would produce with his company Imagine Entertainment and partner Brian Grazer. The last news about the film was that director Mark Romanek (Never Let Me Go) would direct it but that news came in 2011. At the moment it seems that Howard's "Inferno" will be released before "The Lost Symbol."

Howard and Hank's previously worked on the successful adaptations, "The Da-Vinci Code" and "Angels and Demons." In 2006 "The Da Vinci Code" went on to make over $700 million worldwide while 2009's "Angels and Demons" made over $400 million.

The addition of "Inferno" to 2015 adds yet another franchise to the year. Joss Whedon's "The Avengers 2, J. J. Abrams' "Star Wars Episode VII", "Man of Steel sequel or another DC Comics movie, Sam Mendes' "James Bond 24," Edgar Wright's "Ant-Man," Francis Lawrence's "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2", "Jurassic-Park 4," "Terminator 5," Roland Emmerich's "Independence Day 2,", Josh Trank's "Fantastic Four reboot," and Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg's "Pirates of the Caribbean 5, are already scheduled for release. The only difference with "Inferno" is that it will be released in December while the other films are slated for the summer or earlier releases.
