Call of Duty: Ghosts is promising to be one of the best titles coming up in the transition period between the current and next-gen consoles, and while some gamers have focused on Riley the wonder dog, the game remains one of the better titles than could be available for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One when both consoles are launched later this year.

While a new co-op mode has been hinted at by developer Infinity Ward, and an exclusive dynamic map, Free Fall, has been promised as a preorder bonus, not much has been said about the game's multiplayer mode. Well, gamers won't have to wait much longer. Executive producer Mark Rubin has confirmed via Twitter that the game's multiplayer mode will be revealed in August, possibly during Gamescom in Cologne, Germany Aug. 21 to 25:

"Sorry I haven't been on twitter much lately. We are in our death march push to finish game. Lots left to do. Looking forward to MP in August."

While Infinity Ward has focused exclusively on the game's story and single player missions, the bulk of fans are looking forward to the multiplayer mode the most—the aspect of the series that continues to make Call of Duty the phenomenon that it is. Call of Duty's multipayer mode has become such a hit with gamers, it's easy to imagine that Titanfall, the Xbox One title developed by many former Infinity Ward employees, decided to focus only on multiplayer based on Call of Duty fans skipping the campaign mode and heading straight into multiplayer.

In comparison, Call of Duty's chief competition, DICE's Battlefield 4, has given gamers the chance to check out the dynamic new multiplayer maps that will be part of the game. Perhaps because of this, many (myself included) have given Battlefield 4 the edge over Call of Duty: Ghosts so far. It will be interesting to see how exactly Infinity Ward plans to top the chaos seen in the Battlefield 4 demo, and if Call of Duty: Ghosts will feature 64 player maps and the epic scope seen during Battlefield 4's E3 presentations.

In other Call of Duty news, PlayStation 3 and PC owners will be able to download the third DLC pack for Black Op 2 in August. The new DLC pack, called Vengeance, is already available for the Xbox 360, but everyone else will have to wait until Aug. 2 in order to get their hands on the four new maps, new zombie mode map, and new weapon that comes with the DLC.
