Great Britain fans were denied an opportunity to cheer a victory when a late Senegal goal knotted the score at one and ended the first day of Soccer at the Olympics 2012 with its fourth tie.

The British got off to a strong start as they looked to please their faithful fans at the Old Trafford. In the 20th minute, captain Ryan Giggs crossed a shot that Steven Caulker got a head on. The ball went to Craig Bellamy who blasted it into the net and gave the Brits a 1-0 lead. It was the first goal scored by the Great Britain team at the Olympics since Northern Ireland's Patrick Hasty scored in the 1960 games.

Britain played well thereafter, but the Africans would not be denied. Just eight minutes from time, Moussa Konate scored off a delicate touch to silence the crowd. Britain would fight back to retake the lead but Senegal did their best to shut down the furious British attack.

The tie was the fourth in the day following a 2-2 deadlock between Honduras and Morocco, a 0-0 Mexican-Korean tie, and a 1-1 Goba-Swiss draw.

Next up for GB is a date with UAE while Senegal gets a chance against Uruguay.
