It's the weekend. It's the perfect opportunity for E. L. James and director Sam Taylor-Johnson to sit down over a nice cup of tea and decide who will play Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in the upcoming "50 Shades of Grey" movie. Up until now, there has been no official word or even the slightest indication of who will grace the big screen in the film that's slated for an August 2014 release. Fans are left treading water, helplessly waiting for a verdict.

They've stayed afloat, however, with the help of fan polls and mock trailers. Speculations continue to run rampant on Twitter and other social media platforms, each one dedicated to the many "50 Shades" candidates that make up the casting arena. While many come and go, several have withstood the test of time. Since inklings of a possible movie first surfaced near a year ago, a small handful of names have repeatedly popped up as the most desired candidates for the roles.

Rankings do fluctuate. One day someone like Ian Somerhalder from "The Vampire Diaries" will sit pretty atop fan polls, the next he'll be squandered by other big names such as Matt Bomer. It all depends on who's doing what to attract attention. Now, one name in particular is snagging headlines that once again catapult him to the top of likely Christian Grey contenders.

Henry Cavill, our generation's Superman, has long been a candidate to play Mr. Grey, but now that he's split with his recent girlfriend Kaley Cuoco from "Big Bang Theory," he's the hottest commodity on the market. According to PEOPLE, the pair split up just days after rumors of their relationship surfaced.

Although Cuoco never made public any reservations of having her now ex boyfriend star in the erotic flick, complications always arise when your significant other gets down and dirty with another actor. It's best that neither Ana nor Christian are attached to a ball and chain, as the movie will be with chock full of juicy scenes that will try and mimic the book's eroticism.

Since "Man of Steel" dominated the box office last month, Cavill has secured his spot as one of the most sought after Christian candidates alongside Bomer and Somerhalder. His approval on the Twittersphere has increased tenfold since he appeared in those blue shiny tights.

JaneDueker: "Man of Steel Henry Cavill as Christian Grey. 50 Shades of Yes!!"

Soniaquiroz: "Henry Cavill is a good aspirant for the role in 50 Shades of Grey, he's so f------ hot!! #Christian Grey"

DancemomMonique: "Henry Cavill = perfection!! How did God make such a gorgeous man! #ManOfSteel #superman #christiangrey #fiftyshades"

And the list goes on. So what do you think? Would Cavill, aka Superman, make for the perfect Christian Grey?
