Mexico and Korea Republic played to a rather uneventful 0-0 draw in Group B's first match.
The match featured both teams at their most disciplined level as they played cautiously throughout the majority of the match. The first shot on goal did not arrive until the 17th minute when Arsenal forward Park Chuyoung shot a free kick at the net.
Overall, Korea looked better in the first half as the Mexicans looked lethargic and slow. They barely produced opportunities and lacked the aggressiveness that usually characterizes their team.
The biggest surprise for Mexico was that superstar Giovanni Dos Santos was absent from the match until the 66th minute when he came on as a substitute. When he arrived, it seemed like the entire team changed. They were aggressive and the Koreans looked tentative as they looked to avoid giving Dos Santos space. Dos Santos had two prime opportunities including a missed volley three minutes from the end of the match.
Korea threw 12 shots on goal; four made it on target while Mexico only had 8 (3 on target).
Next up, Mexico takes on Gabon while Korea faces off against the Swiss.
