Placido Domingo may be forced to cancel more performances due to recovery.
The Spanish Tenor's son Alvaro Domingo stated that he expects his father to be released from the hospital in the next three or four days. However he said that the tenor will have to recuperate for three weeks and that the doctor suggested that he refrain from singing while recovering.
He also said that his father is scheduled to continue performing in Salzburg in Verdi's "Giovanna d'Arco" but that may change due to his doctor's recommendations.
Domingo has already cancelled six dates in Madrid after being admitted into the hospital on Monday due to a blood clot caused by a pulmonary embolism.
If Domingo is to cancel his role in "Giovanna d'Arco" it would be the second time the concert performances lose a principal singer. Recently tenor Fabio Sartori cancelled his involvement and was replaced by tenor Francsco Meli. Anna Netrebko is currently scheduled to sing the title role with Paolo Carignani conducting.
Domingo is still slated to perform his role debut as Conte di Luna in Verdi's "Il Trovatore" in Berlin. He is also scheduled to reprise his role as Neptune in "The Enchanted Island" at the Metropolitan Opera.
In 2010 the opera star was operated for colon cancer and returned to his performance career a mere 45 days later. He told CBS "I feel strong still. But you know, I mean, you never know how much more time you will have the voice. That's the first thing. But secondly, how the health will be and how is the strength."
