The Xbox One version of Battlefield 4 may have a special feature that PlayStation 4 owners of the game may not be able to replicate. The game will feature motion controls in conjunction with the Kinect that will come standard with the Xbox One.
The news comes from the latest issue of GameInformer (via Videogamer), and developer DICE has promised gamers that they will not be required to use the Kinect to aim and shoot, but rather the technology will be used in "other places where it will make sense", says Karl Magnus Troedsson, GM of DICE.
Troedsson admitted that the studio does not have the highest opinion of the new Kinect in general, but said that the team has found a way to include the motion controls in such a way so that the game's main mechanics are not interfered with:
"We have a pretty pragmatic view [on Kinect 2]...Instead of just trying to tick all the boxes of features you can do with new hardware, we look at what actually adds value [for] our players. When you look at the kind of games that we build - or Battlefield at least - it is a first-person shooter that is very much about skill. Input is really important. You need to have very precise control over what's going on, and trying to do something like that with motion control input does not make sense - not if you want to keep the same kind of formula of the game as we [have] now. You'd need to build a different kind of shooter. But there are other places where it will make sense, and we are going to use it for other things in the game, but we haven't announced exactly what."
It will be interesting to see what sort of motion controls make it into Battlefield 4, and if voice commands will also be put into the game. Perhaps we will see similar features put into the PlayStation 4 version of the game, or maybe the feature will be left out completely.
