A mysterious teaser image has appeared on the official PlayStation Facebook page and Twitter account. It doesn't reveal much, not even the name of the project, only the words, "When Worlds Collide."
The poster appears to picture some kind of solar eclipse. So far, a number of fan theories have emerged on the image's possible meaning.
A user on NeoGAF noticed that the same slogan appeared in the Christmas 2009 issue of Edge Magazine in an ad for Dust 514.
Dust 514 takes place in the same universe as the PC MMO Eve Online, hence the "worlds collide" message. Dust also takes place in a sci-fi setting, so the eclipse imagery would make sense, and it's also a PlayStation 3 exclusive, giving it strong Sony ties. However, the game was released back in May, so it's confusing why Sony would be hyping it up to such a degree now.
Another theory posits that the poster is a promo for Tekken X Street Fighter, which is slated for an uncertain 2014 release window. Its predecessor, Street Fighter X Tekken, was released on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, but also on the Xbox 360 and PC.
A sequel to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is another possibility, as that game is certainly themed around "worlds colliding." It is also a first-party Sony game, and could make for an interesting PlayStation 4 launch title.
Other more technical possibilities include stronger integration between the PS Vita and the PlayStation console, or a more substantial partnership between the PlayStation Network and Steam.
So far, Sony has not made any comment on the tease. We can definitely expect some sort of announcement in the next few days, though. What do you think it is? Let us know in the comments section.
