We're still waiting. The hours, days, weeks and months continue to tick by without any word from E. L. James or the rest of the "50 Shades of Grey" crew on who will play the roles of Christian Grey or Anastasia Steele. No matter how loud the cries of fans, the top dogs continue to deliberate, and there's no end in sight. We're still waiting. However, diehards know how to ail their woes. Mock trailers, fan polls and wild speculations fuel the "50 Shades" flame and keep fans at bay. It would be nice if we could put an end to all this debauchery and rumor hustle and bustle, but no. We're still waiting.
There have been plenty of Christian Grey contenders passing through the "50 Shades of Grey" casting arena. Some stick around longer than others while some have remained top candidates since rumors of a the film first surfaced. It's difficult to keep track of all those in contention, so here's a brief list of those that snagged headlines and caught the attention of adoring fans.
Matt Bomer: The "White Collar" star has appeared in several mock trailers, which accumulatively have generated tens of millions of view, far more than any others. Two in particular, each of which debuted 11 months ago, clock in at more than 6.7 million and 5.4 million views. Another, posted only two months back, is approaching 500,000 with no signs of letting up anytime soon. Another, yes there are many, sits comfortably at 300,000.
Ian Somerhalder: "The Vampire Diaries" star has received ample attention since the beginning. He continues to top fan polls and remains one of the most desired Christian candidates. He recently commented on the repeated attention he's received since entering the "50 Shades" casting arena. Over and over again fans ask whether or not he'll play Christian, but he doesn't let it get to him. "One can never get bored of people asking about a huge project, every guy in Hollywood is up for this role."
Henry Cavill: Now that "Man of Steel" has made it through its first month in theaters worldwide, Henry Cavill has secured his spot as one of the most sought after Christian candidates alongside Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder. His approval on the Twittersphere has increased tenfold since the "Man of Steel" debut in June.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt: Gordon-Levitt, who recently released his first ever directed film, "Don Jon," has been catching the eyes of "50 Shades" fans worldwide as a possible Christian Grey. In "Don Jon," Gordon-Levitt stars alongside Scarlett Johansson, and the thought of the two together gracing the big screen once again in the racy "50 Shades of Grey" movie is something to drool over. And you know what else is perfect? Gordon-Levitt's character, Jon, is addicted to porn. "There's only a few things I really care about in my life: my body, my pad, my ride, my family, my church, my boys, my girls, and my porn," Don Jon says. What a seamless transition into "50 Shades of Grey" that would be.
Ryan Reynolds: Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively may be on the "50 Shades" backburner, but now they're turning heads as possible Christian and Ana contenders. The pair has chemistry off screen, so naturally the romance would translate seamlessly. They already share an intimate relationship, so why not show it off to the world? It wouldn't be uncomfortable for them to get down and dirty on the "50 Shades" film as they've already done it a million times behind closed doors.
Ryan Gosling: One fan favorite, who has tragically confessed his lack of interest in the role, is constantly at the center of "50 Shades" attention and has recently earned his own Facebook fan page, complete with provocative Christian Grey memes. The page proves that fans just can't get enough of Ryan Gosling, despite his supposed hiatus from acting.
Who do you think would make the best Christian Grey?
