"Super Smash Bros" is coming to both the Wii U and 3DS, and soon fans of the brawler will get the chance to play the game on the go and on the big screen.
The games will feature several new characters and settings that have been highlighted with some new screenshots released by Nintendo. Interested readers can find the new images collected over at Gamespot. Highlights include Fox McCloud jumping on Mario inside a wrestling ring and a new level taking based on the Wii U Trainer's gym.
In addition, one of the biggest creative minds working on the games, Masahiro Sakurai, gave a new interview with IGN where he reveals what inspired him to bring the game to the 3DS:
"Back when I was working on Kid Icarus Uprising, I was already getting a feel for the 3DS performance and the features in that hardware..Mr. Iwata came to me and asked which platform I would want to put the next Smash Bros. on," Sakurai said. "Looking at those two platforms and seeing their individual styles and uniquenesses - I saw with the 3DS that it would be good for one flavor of the game, but there was also the other end, getting the grand scale what was possible with the Wii U. So with that in mind, we decided to go ahead and put the game on two platforms."
When asked about how far the game is in development, specifically in terms of balancing the many different characters on the roster and software patches being implemented, Sakurai revealed that the game is nearing completion and is being tested to make sure that the game is crafted well enough to hopefully avoid patching the game.
"We're not at a stage in development where we're going through those fine sorts of adjustments...When we get towards the end of development, we will have what we call monitor playtests, where we watch people play the games. We perform thorough analysis based on those observations. There have been cases in the past, admittedly, where we didn't gather sufficient data for certain characters, and that resulted in certain game imbalances. Patches are something we'd definitely like to be able to do, if possible," said Sakurai.
