It's July 4th Thursday. It's a time to celebrate our country's independence, take a break from work, spark up and grill and kick off your shoes with a cold drink in hand. The glorious day is somewhat bittersweet, however. Most networks will suspend broadcast of their original series for the day, leaving fans without their favorite shows for an additional week. So while you hold on to a loved one and watch fireworks light up the warm summer night sky, don't let the absence Thursday night television spoil your mood.
To help you simmer your television woes, here's what's on the horizon for one of Thursday night's best, "Rookie Blue." To make up for its week off, the series has some heart stopping action planned for the future.
"Remember [TVLine's Matt Webb] Mitovich telling you in Inside Line about a big episode coming up later this season featuring the return of one of the ABC drama's past (and most dangerous) villains? Well, per leading man Gregory Smith, Charlotte Sullivan's Gail figures smack dab in the middle of it," says Michael Ausiello of TVLine. "'It's an incredible episode for Gail,' [Mitovich] previews. 'It's a very traumatic experience for Gail, where she really has to rise to the occasion."
It's unclear when the "big" episode will air, but it's sure to turn the season upside down. In the meantime, fans are happy to learn that Detective Luke Callaghan is coming back to "Rookie Blue" for at least one episode, according to Zap2It. Although his stay may be brief, he's sure to bring a duffel bag chock full of drama. He's likely to get Andy hyped up, which could potentially upset Sam. Callaghan has not appeared on the show since he sent Andy undercover back in season 3. He'll return to work on a kidnapping case reminiscent of one of his prior cases, leading him to believe that the culprit is a copycat.
"Rookie Blue" airs Thursday nights on ABC. Unfortunately, it will be absent from the July 4th festivities, but hopefully it won't damper your evening all too much.
