There are few shows that can withstand the test of time. Most begin trail off following their fourth or fifth seasons, crashing and burning halfway through the first decade of their existence. Others, with a combination of witty writing, intriguing characters, an unfaltering steady plotline and a touch a some magical ingredient unknown to normal writers, can carry on through eternity. Think back on "The Office" or "How I Met Your Mother." They both ran for nine seasons, and although they began to teeter towards repetitiveness, they could have gone for a few more. What makes a show great is easy to define, but what makes it last is something completely different. One sitcom in particular, which is now entering its seventh season, is more popular than it ever has been and shows no signs of dying out anytime soon.
Season 7 of "The Big Bang Theory" is currently in early production as the show continues to ride its ever growing wave of success. With a brand new season on the horizon, here's a brief roundup of what fans can expect.
Fans were sad to see Raj and Lucy split during the season 6 finale, but Raj's future may not be so grim. According to various sources, he could become quite the ladies man in season 7. "One of the major stories involving his character at this point could be that just because he now knows how to talk to women, it won't mean that he'll be any good at it, and there will be a steep learning curve if he ever hopes to find love." Okay so maybe ladies man is an overstatement, but it's likely that we'll see Raj dip his toes in other romantic possibilities.
Speaking of love, Penny and Leonard will continue on as a happy couple. "It took her more than five years to say it," said Johnny Galecki, who plays Leonard. "That's why now you know with Penny that whatever she does is real. You know when she said it she truly meant it."
And even more on love and relationships, Sheldon and Amy will continue to fight for a long-lasting relationship, however, there will be plenty of difficulties on the way. While it's going very slowly, he's doing the best he can and tells her, "It may not seem like it to you, but for me, this is extremely intimate." I think that helps explain where he's at. I think it helps explain why she is willing to hang in there for this guy.
"The Big Bang Theory" will return to CBS September 16.
