Pepsi has always been known for creating great advertising campaigns related to futbol.
Some of the company's work include major brand advertising strategies featuring sports superstars such as coaches Pep Guardiola and Mourinho, or soccer icons like Lionel Messi, Sergio Agüero, Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres, among others.
Now Pepsi Mexico has chosen Santos Laguna star Oribe Peralta to be the new face of its latest commercial, alongside Guadalajara midfielder Marco Fabián de la Mora and actor Aarón Díaz.
In the ad, the two players can be seen in a bar drinking Pepsi. Marco Fabián asks Oribe what he would have dedicated his life to if he weren't a football player, to which the star of Santos Laguna answers, with grave determination: "A telenovela heartthrob".
Next, a sequence of thoughts by the Guadalajara player is shown, where he imagines Peralta with actor Aaron Diaz's body, who is famous for being a hot Mexican telenovela actor, scoring the winning goal of an Olympic match and jumping to stardom as "The Beautiful Peralta".
After Fabián comes out of his dream, he starts laughing at his thoughts, so Peralta asks him what he's laughing at. In that precise moment, Aarón Díaz enters the bar and asks for Oribe's autograph. Then he confesses to the football players that if he had not been an actor he would have loved to be a football star, just like them.
The spot was designed and developed by ad agency BBDO Mexico, as published by the Mexican news website of marketing and advertising The Markethink. It was an instant hit on YouTube, with more than 350,000 views in less than one week.
