The Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone has sold approximately 10 million since its launch over a month ago. Despite the momentum, the phone is not the one that is on most customers' minds.
According to a survey by 451 Research/ChangeWave, there is "unprecedented" demand for the unannounced iPhone 5 with 14 percent of respondents stating that they are "very likely" to buy the iPhone 5. The 14 percent represents an increase from the October 2011 poll in which 10 percent of respondents stated that they were very likely to purchase the iPhone 4S, Apple's previous version of the smartphone.
17 percent of respondents stated that they were "somewhat likely" to purchase the iPhone 5. Though 59 percent of those polled stated they are "unlikely" to make the purchase, the number is a decrease from the last poll in October when 71 percent of those polled stated they would not buy the iPhone 4S.
In comparison only two percent of users expressed that they were "very likely" to buy the Galaxy S3 in the next 90 days. Only 7 percent of respondents stated that they were "somewhat likely" to purchase the Galaxy S3 in the next 90 days. This means that 93 percent of people polled are either "unlikely" or "undecided" on purchasing the phone.
News on the iPhone's launch has been scant. Apple has yet to make any formal announcement regarding the phone's launch date or even its features. Rumors insist on a fall launch date, though a fourth quarter release is not out of the realm of possibility.
Last week, the Wall Street Journal confirmed that the phone would have a thinner screen. A photograph of the supposed front cover of the phone also created buzz last week.
