Summit revealed 10 new pictures of the upcoming young adult adaptation "Divergent."
The images show Shailene Woodley in a black suit with weapons during action sequences. Some images also show her training in futuristic looking buildings. The images recall "The Hunger Games," a film that "Divergent" is already getting compared to because of the similar plot lines and futuristic approaches.
The film, based on the Veronica Roth novel, sets the story in a dystopian Chicago, where society has been broken up into five factions which determine a person's way of life. The story begins with Woodley's character Tris learning that she's "Divergent," which means she won't fit into any one faction. Tris chooses her faction and begins her training, while trying to keep her newly revealed nature a secret as she attempts to find her place among her people.
The new movie will be the first installment of the three part series. The next movie will be "Insurgent" followed by the novel "Allegiant" which will be released on October 22, 2013.
Woodley is best known for her Golden Globe-nominated role in "The Descendants." She recently wrapped shooting "White Bird in a Blizzard" with Eva Green and Chrsitopher Meloni. The actress next appears in the Sundance Award winner "The Spectacular Now" and "The Amazing Spider-Man 3;" Woodley was originally expected to appear in the second "Spider-Man" but was cut out of the final version of the film.
Directed by Neil Burger (The Illusionist), the film co-stars Theo James (Underworld: Awakening), Kate Winslet (Revolutionary Road), Tony Goldwyn (Ghost), Ray Stevenson (Thor), Maggie Q (Sideways), Ashley Judd (Bug), Jai Courtney (Jack Reacher), Miles Teller (The Spectacular Now) and Zoë Kravitz (After Earth).
"Divergent" hits theaters on March 21, 2014.
