With rumors about the "Man of Steel" sequel surfacing on the web, Bryan Cranston has become the number one choice to play the villainous Lex Luthor.
According to a survey by the Digital Spy, fans preferred Bryan Cranston as the best choice for Lex Luther. "The Breaking Bad" actor took 46.56% of the vote and beat out "Star Trek: Into Darkness" star Benedict Cumberbatch (16.72%) for first place.
Leonardo DiCaprio, who starred in "Man of Steel" producer Christopher Nolan's "Inception," landed in third place with 6.52%. Meanwhile Jason Statham (Parker) earned 6.32% of the vote, while Alexander Skarsgård (The East, Melancholia) rounded out the top five choices. Other actors who were part of the survey included Ben Affleck (Argo), Bradley Cooper (The Hangover, Silver Liningss Playbook), Damian Cooper (Homeland), Jon Hamm (Mad Men) and Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale).
"Man of Steel 2" is currently in pre-production with director Zack Snyder and writer David Goyer on board for the film. Goyer recently stated that if Luthor was in the next film then it would be different from Gene Hackman's take on the villain. He stated, "It's not the Gene Hackman version. This is a Bill Gates-like Lex that is probably worth 50, 60, 70 billion dollars. It's a very different Lex."
The Wall Street Journal recently revealed that Warner Bros wanted to release the next "Superman" film in 2014.
The first Superman film was released in June 2013 and scored mixed reviews with a 57% aggregate score on Rotten Tomatoes. Scott Foundas from Variety stated, "A humorless tone and relentlessly noisy aesthetics drag down this heavily hyped, brilliantly marketed tentpole attraction."
Eric Kohn from Indiewire gave the film a C+ and stated, "Instead of making a blockbuster Superman movie, Snyder has turned the Superman narrative into yet another modern day blockbuster."
Meanwhile Jordan Hoffman of Screen Crush gave the film a nine out of 10 and said, "If comic book heroes are our modern Greek gods, 'Man of Steel' is solid enough to stand proudly atop Mount Olympus."
The film has already scored $400 million worldwide and has already made $210 million domestically.
